Macross F Galaxy Tour FINAL in Budokan - Part 4 October 27
The galactic fairies Sheryl Nome and Ranka Lee sing off with “Lion”.
What would a Macross Frontier concert be without THE Macross song that has transcended time itself, “Ai Oboete Imasu ka?” (Do You Remember Love?) If there’s anything that blew my mind with the series that marked the 25th anniversary of the franchise, it was the inclusion of this song. Having seen the original series way back in the day, the song not only gives off a real sense of nostalgia but “completeness” as well. It’s hard to imagine anyone ever matching up to Iijima Mari’s original Lynn Minmay, but Nakajima Megumi makes a good pitch for it as Ranka Lee. For the performance of this infamous song, May’n also helped sing backup.
In part 4, we also see the conclusion of the main portion of the concert, which reaches a climax with the awesome instrumental medley “Fold Out ~ Shinkuu he! Flying Guitar” before going all out in a flurry of songs “Nyan Nyan Service Medley” Budokan Special style. However, with no full performance of “Lion”, things seemed incomplete. This brings us to the beginning of the encore portion of the concert, which realistically could’ve been a standalone mini-concert on its own. Starting with an instrumental performance of “Private Army” featuring Kanno Youko on an accordion, we’re set up for the long-awaited live performance of Lion… and more!
“Diamond Crevasse”
However, that’s not before we hear May’n’s powerful performance of “Diamond Crevasse”. Megumi is on stage as well, looking pretty for the crowd.
“Yousei (Acoustic Version)”
As May’n performs the galactic fairy song “Yousei”, Megumi continues to look pretty as she moves about the stage. For this rare acoustic version, we have Kanno-san alone on the piano. Simply mesmerizing.
“Ai Oboete Imasu ka?” (Do You Remember Love?)
I remember love! Hearing Megumi perform this song was awesome on its own, but having May’n singing backup for the latter parts only made it better. ~Oboete imasu ka, Me to me ga atta toki wo~
“Fold Out ~ Shinkuu he! Flying Guitar”. Medley of “Transformation”, “Prologue F”, and “Take Off”.
FOLD OUT! With the light show, how can you not get goosebumps listening to this? Simply awesome. They even had the original Macross on the big screen for it, half submerged into the water and all. This is some powerful stuff. It brings a tear to the eye because of its sheer awesomeness.
“Nyan Nyan Service Medley (Budokan Special)”
The final song of the main portion of the concert. I’m sure everyone’s listened to this one to death, but when it’s live and in front of a crowd of 14,000+, it’s on a whole other level.
“Private Army” with Kanno Youko on the accordion!
This is the start of the encore portion of the concert, which features Kanno Youko on the accordion. I love it just as much as the crowd does, especially when she’s making the Macross triangle with her arms at the end.
“Lion”
…which leads us right into the long-awaited performance of “Lion”. I found it a bit strange for them to hold out on this song until the encore, but the wait probably increased the impact it had on the crowd.
“Iteza Gogo Kuji Don’t be late” (Encore)
They’re far from done though, as May’n and Megumi go on to perform an encore version of “Iteza Gogo Kuji Don’t be late”, followed by a never before seen duet of “Seikan Hikou” that has May’n dancing the Ranka dance as well!
“Seikan Hikou” duet with May’n dancing the dance! Plus band member introductions and tons of “Kira~” to go around.
In the last part of the Galaxy Tour concert, I’ll cover the second talk of the concert, an encore performance of “Anata no Oto”, “SMS Shoutai no Uta ~ Ano Musume wa Alien”, “High School Life”, and last but not least, a piano performance of “Diamond Crevasse” followed by a piano solo outro by Kanno Youko. If you’ve been following my posts, you’ve seen every performance thus far. I haven’t been selective with the performances, so stay tuned for the rest!

Guess they saved the best for last. Lion and Nyan Nyan Service Medley were great.
Like I said its the duets of Megumi and May’n that are godly.

Syllen:
I agree, but at least they had May’n and Megumi perform it at the start and end of the medley they opened the concert with.
Tarage at 1:00 am on October 28th, 2009
Megumi sounds exhausted by the end.

the “private army” is rather special in its own way…
…and that guitar solo in “Fold Out ~ Shinkuu he! Flying Guitar”…epic
…then there’s “Ai Oboete Imasu ka?”… that extra intro bridging from “Yousei” was a nice touch to an already great song
