Summary:
A certain surge causes the drones keeping Hei in place to overload, and at the urging of Mao, Suou tackles Hei into the icy waters nearby. Their would-be captors, Shizume Genma and Hazuki Mina, come too late to stop them, but they do finish off August 7. Sometime later, Hei wakes up from a dream about Yin to find himself alone with Suou, and he instinctively restrains her. Suou still wants to know why he killed her father and why everyone is looking for Shion, and in her anger she accuses him of being the kind of person who’d kill a loved one without hesitation. This leads to Hei slapping her, and Suou laments how everything in her life got so messed up so quickly. She eventually cries herself to sleep, and afterward, Mao has a chat with Hei. Mao survived the Tokyo incident because his memory gets regular backups, and after he reveals that he’s working now under the same woman that Hei is, he explains that he’s come to convey a change of orders.
Suou wakes up sometime the next day to the sound of her cell phone ringing, but Hei breaks the phone because he knows it’s their enemy trying to track them. In the process, he knocks open Suou’s bag, and Suou notices an origami whale inside her mother’s photobook. Written on the whale is a note from Shion saying that he’ll be waiting, and since it was stuck between two pictures of buildings in Ikebukuro, Hei realizes that that’s where they need to go. He and Suou escape from their hiding place before the Russians can move in, and Hei leads her to the train station. While he distracts the guards, Suou heads towards the train, but she’s stopped by Tanya who is after the reward and status for catching her. Hei jumps in to help, however he’s unable to use his powers and has to retreat from Tanya’s locust swarm. During a break in the action, he decides to entrust Suou with Mao and heads off to face the guards again. As it turns out, Mao has taken over the body of Suou’s pet squirrel, and he leads Suou to a hiding spot.
Meanwhile, things get even more chaotic when Genma and Mina show up to slaughter a bunch of the soldiers, crash a train, and cause a giant fuel explosion. Despite the shock of all this, Suou is still mindful enough to try to stop Tanya from trying to finish off Hei, and their conversation is interrupted by the arrival of an injured Nika who Tanya had earlier used to track down Suou. Suou can only watch as Tanya sends her locusts against Nika, killing him, and something finally snaps inside of her. Wanting all Contractors to die, Suou’s own Contractor powers activate, and a giant rifle emerges from her pendant. Using this rifle, Suou’s first shot knocks down Tanya, her second one takes out all the locusts by engulfing them in an explosion, and her subsequent shots are aimed towards Genma and Mina, though neither gets taken down. July is actually nearby, directing each of Suou’s shots, but Suou hesitates when he points her towards Tanya again. Hei finally comes in to stop her, and the rifle disappears as she loses consciousness. As he picks her up and leaves, Hei gets July to come with them.
At around this same time, in a police station on the island of Hachijou, Misaki is on the phone with Kanami about the disappearance of BK-201, but Kanami thinks that Misaki made a mistake and that she should give up on Hei and look for a new man. Misaki, however, refuses to let it go and calls up her old subordinate Saitou to ask him about it, but unfortunately he can’t talk about Contractors with her, especially not since she was exiled. He does warn her though about a certain organization called Agency No. 3, and as if on cue, a member of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications shows up in Misaki’s office. This man reveals that the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications is a front for Agency No. 3, and their goal is the extermination of the remnants of the Syndicate. He really gets Misaki’s attention by asserting that BK-201 is not dead and that she can’t reach him from where she is now, and he wants her to join him. Meanwhile, on a boat somewhere, Mao asks Hei what happened to Yin. Hei starts talking about her, but he pauses mid-sentence and then declares that he’ll kill “that woman.” Nearby, Suou is folding origami as part of her remuneration.

Wow, uh, Suou’s Contractor power was pretty cool, but there’s something quite amusing about seeing a huge-ass rifle emerge from her pendant. That thing’s gotta be at least as big as she is, and the way they animated it made it seem even bigger. What was actually most surprising about that scene though was that July showed up so suddenly and was directing her, like he was getting revenge for the death of August 7. It looks like he’ll finally be getting some character development, though I’m not sure I like the fact that he’s essentially going to be Yin’s replacement in this new team. That being said, it is kind of funny to think about how Hei now has to work with two children and a flying squirrel.
Speaking of which, it feels kind of wrong to keep calling him Mao if he’s going to keep that body. At least his personality hasn’t changed, and I laughed at the scene where he leads Suou around, though that was in large part because of the odd choice of music. His conversation with Hei earlier in the episode also raised some questions about who the woman they refer to is, and I wonder if it’s the same person who Hei talks about killing at the end of the episode. On that note, I should point out that what Hei said at the end of the episode can be interpreted either as him wanting to kill Yin (which seems unlikely) or the woman who caused whatever happened to Yin. If the series really is going to be only a single season, I’m sure it’ll get cleared up soon enough.
I was also glad to see that the group is headed back to Tokyo and that Misaki is getting back into the thick of things thanks to Mr. Golgo 13. I wonder if she’ll end up working with Genma and Mina or if she’ll be her own faction again. Either way, I’m really enjoying the series so far and am hoping for more good things to come.

Poor Nika. That is not a pleasant way to die.
I refuse to believe that Hei intends to kill Yin, because it makes absolutely no sense. Maybe the woman they’re all working for is the short-haired blonde in the purple dress, the one who has the same voice as Brita from the original series?

awesome episode esp how suou became a contractor. i think it has something to do with hei’s abilities, from last season i think his abilities allow him to turn people into contractors.

BK-201’s ability is to quantumly change matter, which means, he can change genetics of people and turn them into contractors if he wants to. He can also pull alchemy tricks without alchemic circles, though he prefers to just move electrons and produce high enough currents to kill people with (because it’s so much simpler).
As for Suou’s ability, I felt it looked a bit mahou shoujo-ish, minus the costume change and with added ’summon anti-tank rifle’. Also, I thought she was going Moratorium until Hei stopped her from shooting Tanya. Contractors can have emotions, as evidence by Amber pining over Hei, Wei feeling humiliated and Breta feeling regret over the death of her baby. They just leave emotions well away from their decision making.

The bloody anti-tank gun is only 38lbs but something like that coming out of a pendant is just crazy. Other than that silliness, I love how this is getting interesting very fast. We didn’t get even one horrible low period of boredom in the first series & I’m glad they’re taking that route with this one, so far.
On a lighter note, that squirrel mess is just too funny. Hopefully they won’t stick with that for too long - even though I know that’s a pipedream

@xcswmboy: One way, if not the only one, is to go near hell’s gate, which I’m sure is what Hei has in mind when he gets to Tokyo. It is just the same as what happened with havoc back in season 1.

This means that Suou might be new BK201 and also the woman (I dont know her name) with the twins said the end was coming July said the same thing too maybe that is the women Hei plans to kill. I guess we say at this point Misaki is way obsessed with finding BK201 that shes probably willing to join the MAIC.

From the official site’s characters page, it looks as if the squirrel is called Petya (Pe-chiya). Thanks to Mincemaker for that info about Hei and also emotions. I understand the concern about the mahou shoujo feel, but it didn’t bother me, or even occur to me, as it happened. The atmosphere is so different. I loved this ep.

the squirrel theme song was cool and the contractor transformation of suou was way cool, loved the eyes.

i like Suou, and her contractor power is col, and that will be interesting to watch, but it fucking sucks that Hei’s power got transferred to her, and if it didn’t where that fuck is it.
