CODE GEASS - 4.33 - Picture Drama 05 (DVD Special)

Summary:

In the time prior to Suzaku’s planned execution, Jeremiah had been deputy consul and had been talking to Villetta about making her into a baroness so that her descendants can be true nobles, unlike the title of knight which only lasts one generation. For now, he has entrusted the parade route for Suzaku’s execution to her, and she’s made all the necessary preparations. Jeremiah doesn’t want to be humiliated any more because he’s now allowed two members of the royal family to be killed in front of him. Villetta doesn’t know what the first time he’s referring to is, so Jeremiah explains that he used to be a guard in the Aries palace as his first military duty eight years ago. The Aries palace was where Empress Marianne was, and on that one night, orders came from above to reduce the number of guards to a minimum. Because of that, the guards weren’t able to defend against the enemy intrusion, and this incident became Jeremiah’s first setback. He then took up a new post in Area 11 where Marianne’s orphans Lelouch and Nunnally had died, but now Clovis is dead too. When Jeremiah starts crying because of the memories of both Clovis and Marianne, Villetta asks him to wipe his tears because he’s not acting very lord-like. Realizing that she’s right, Jeremiah admits that his little sister Lilicia would laugh if she saw him like this, and as part of the distinguished Gottwald family, he vows to avenge Clovis and vindicate his honor. Unfortunately, Jeremiah’s dreams and aspirations go down in flames when, under the influence of Lelouch’s GEASS, he orders his forces to let the enemy escape.

I wonder what Jeremiah would have done back then if he knew Lelouch and Nunnally were still alive. He talked of them and Marianne in such a respectful way, like he truly regretted what happened even though he didn’t seem that concerned about the order from above to reduce the number of guards to a minimum. Of course, I say “back then” because robo-Jeremiah now or whatever he has become now probably couldn’t care less. I also found it interesting that Jeremiah had a little sister and that she was given a name - Lilicia. Perhaps we’ll get to see her sometime in the future.

Overall, this was another enjoyable picture drama that stayed mostly on the serious side. That is, until the very end where the final fade-to-orange shot caused me to start laughing. Seeing this also makes me wonder if we’ll get a Villetta and Ougi picture drama later on since she doesn’t play a really significant part in this one. The picture drama for the sixth DVD, however, has been announced to be a swimsuit episode.

When a character is put into a show for purely sex appeal purposes (Villetta) and then doesn’t deliver the goods, what the hell is the point?

That’s a cool background story for Jeremiah.
He’s a very zealous Brittanian but his loyalty has good intentions.

Damn, I never quite appreciated how lethal Villeta’s legs were until this shot.

dood, picture drama is awesome. Since not much staffs are needed in order to make one, we are able to get some side story out while waiting for the real thing.

Orange is awesome. Now Vieta will totaly dump Ougi when her memory is back.

Rage: You fail. Side story = win at character development. We get small tidbits between characters who we know interact but don’t get to see often. (Suzaku and Rivalz obviously have to talk, etc)

Surprisingly, after this, I almost feel sorry for Orange-kun now.

The writer have said that none of the characters are purely good, I guess that the opposite is also true that none of them are purely evil either. Jeremiah apparently also had unplumbed depths.

cyoti: Wait, so that means even Nunally isn’t purely good? (zomg zomg Knightmare of Nunnally? XD)

This makes me hate Lelouch even more (i don’t HATE him, though its painful seeing Jeremiah like this) — and how, he has a little sister! Thats shocking & interesting.

    More Jeremiah please.

  14. Rage at 9:33 am on May 26th, 2007

Spectrum: it doesn’t matter what the result of failure who making character development they made purpose only for extra story.

Meh…it’s too late (IMHO) to try and paint the guy in a good light. Dig deep enough to anyone and you’ll find whatever redeeming quality you want to find. Even Satan was once one of God’s greatest angels. To me, this destroys the facade that I thought what made Jeremiah a good character. He was supposed to be the prick, the unbending officer whose refusal to change would’ve lead him to his well deserved demised.

…And yes, her legs are awesome.

  16. Rage at 9:53 am on May 26th, 2007

Think about it, its a waste spending DVD special to see extra story for just how many minutes will run?

Will you care about that to see character development, its that really important to you Spectrum?

Point is, you don’t have to watch it or even comment on it. Ta dah! No seriously, these are just extras for character interactions that you wouldn’t likely see, hence, it is just for some characterization. It does not contribute to the story, but it’s interesting considering that we only know the backgrounds of a few characters, all of whom are major characters only.

Notice they’re DVD specials, not mainstream episodes or anything like that. It does not interfere with the viewer’s enjoyment of the show, and it only costs the company producing them (don’t be so naive to believe that this is going to cost them a fortune either).

  18. Rage at 12:19 pm on May 26th, 2007

Point is, you dont have to explain the full details its very obvious indeed and I have the right to comment.

  19. boo at 12:37 pm on May 26th, 2007

Does this mean orange might actually side with zero once he figures out he’s lelouch? all vs lelouch’s father in a hime/otome style ending…god spare us

  20. Gil at 1:52 pm on May 26th, 2007

    Omni

I found your line a little confusing: “Marianne’s orphans Lelouch and Nunnally

They were orphans and not blood-related to the Emperor or what is it?
