Summary:
Many years ago, Rin lost his parents and Kaede’s mother in a car accident. When Kaede went into shock, the doctor said that she needed a purpose to live on. Rin ended up telling her that it was his fault that her mother died because he forced them to come back home early, and that’s when they got into the accident. As a result of this, Kaede hated and tortured Rin for much of his childhood until one day she found the postcard sent by her mother before she died. This postcard revealed that the parents were coming back because Kaede had been sick, meaning that she was actually the one to blame, not Rin. As a result of learning this, Kaede had run out of the house and almost got hit by a truck, but Rin pulled her to safety. Since then, Kaede has been completely devoted to Rin. Unfortunately, this means that she’s not taking care of herself so much, and she gets sick with a fever. Rin stays home from school for her sake, but he’s fairly inept at cooking, so Asa, Nerine, and Sia come to help out. After the other girls leave, Rin goes up to feed Kaede and wash her back. Kaede has started feeling that Rin doesn’t really need her anymore, and when an earthquake starts shaking the house, she refuses to let go of him. He finally thanks her for always working so hard and says that he can’t do anything without her. When she asks if she can still take care of him from now on, Rin makes her promise to take it easy. In the aftermath, once Kaede gets better, she feels that her reason to live is to take care of Rin.

These two Kaede/Gotou Yuuko songs aren’t actually new - they’ve appeared on other SHUFFLE! CDs and OSTs - but it was cool to see that they spent the effort to redo the OP and ED sequences for Kaede. This would seem to mean that we’ll get a new set for each girl, which is pretty exciting if you ask me.
It appears that these recap stories are going to be approached from a chronological order. Thus, they started with flashbacks from the episode 19 and then the rest of the episode was the Kaede-getting-sick stuff from episode five. I don’t think there was anything new in this episode except maybe Kaede’s monologue at the very end. Still, at least for me, the new OP and ED did make it worthwhile to watch.

OK, I wondering after watching this one if it’s not based on the Really?Really! game in some part. The OP & ED reall reminded me of that game . . . .

Wow….That was good and funny opening. I haven’t watched all of the original Shuffle! but I know most of everything. Isn’t the opening’s song one of the original anime’s main themes (usually plays while the characters are in school or at Rin’s house) with lyrics? (the tune sounded really familiar)

I like Kaede storyline a lot, I would like the show to go that way…
I wouldn’t mind if the show takes Primula’s or Nerine’s, or any other girl’s routes as well… But I certainly want it to end in a different way, if everything ends up being the same, then it wouldn’t have any meaning in making the show again ¿would it?

I’m confused. I hear some people saying it’s scenes from Shuffle!? which I’ve already seen, but then I hear some saying it’s taking certain people paths. If it’s just showing scenes from Shuffle I won’t even bother following this, but I really hope its not. It would just bore me to tears because I already know what’s going to happen.

Supposedly 12 recapping the entire series with 2 eps for each girl, first episode was a recap of the first series in general and the last one is suppose to be a “new” episode.

Great… the return of Kaede “Switchblade” Fuyou. I still cringe whenever I see that scene where Kaede drops a razor from the top of the stairs. Then again, this development was what drove the first series to its conclusion. But who woulda thunk it? In her youth Kaede had all the skills necessary to be a truly terrifying person. (she could choke someone out and use a blade).
