Summary:
With the war with Shikeripechimu over, Hakuoro sees that people are rebuilding all around him. A group of young boys spot him and pledge to be stronger so that they can fight together with him. Eruru hopes that there won’t be any more wars when those boys grow up, so there’s no need for them to fight. And although Niwe was defeated, he did successfully burn down his capital, so there is a lot of hard rebuilding ahead. After a hard day, Eruru gives Hakuoro a back rub. That night however, Hakuoro has a fiery nightmare of Niwe and sees blood on his own hands. Niwe calls him a monster who carries misfortune and says that as long as Hakuoro is around, wars will not disappear. After Hakuoro wakes up, he goes out for a stroll and comes across Touka. She follows him around and the two hear some noises coming from the storage shed. Of course, it’s just Aruru, Mukkuru, and Karura raiding the place for food.
The next day, Hakuoro and Touka find a large group of men watching Benaui and Oboro fight. Oboro starts off with a deep breath and manages to get some good swings in. Benaui blocks every single one of them and even counters a hit. When it’s Benaui’s turn to attack, Oboro uses his sword to slice along the handle of Benaui’s polearm. This causes Benaui to let go of the weapon, but only long enough for him to bounce it off his foot and back up into his hands. Using the pole part, Benaui throws Oboro over his shoulder and pins him on the ground. Because it was such a good fight, the men break out the food and drink. That night, Hakuoro finds Kamyu drinking water uncontrollably. She tells him that no matter how much she drinks, she can’t get rid of a dryness feeling. Kamyu wonders if she’s got a strange sickness, and then falls to her knees in pain. Urutorii comes running to help her sister and carries her off. Watching the scene from atop a tree behind Hakuoro is an eye-patched man. Later, Hakuoro experiences after another fiery nightmare about Niwe, but this time he takes a little solace in remembering Eruru’s comforting words.
The next night, Hakuoro comes across Eruru telling Yuzuha a story about a man and a woman. The man became a soldier in a war, so the two promised to be together when he returned. But the man became wounded and fell in battle. Just as the man is thinking that this is it for him, he notices the light of a star. With it encouraging and guiding him, the man returns home. However, the woman is now gone. The man knew that the star that guided him was the woman who loved him. When the man eventually died, he joined his lover in the sky and the two stars shine in the sky, even now. Having heard the story, Yuzuha wonders if she can become a star and shine down on everyone. As she puts Yuzuha to bed, Eruru says that she can indeed become one. But before that, there’s still knowing love, letting that love grow, and bearing and raising a child. If she lives her life to the fullest today and tomorrow, she’ll definitely become a star someday.
Sometime later, Hakuoro returns to the ruins of the Shikeripechimu capital. Seeing how guilty Hakuoro feels, Eruru shows him a patch of growing plants. She explains that she planted the seeds last time they came. By planting seeds, the greenery will return; if you don’t sow any seeds, nothing will grow. What are important are the feelings that you can raise something new. From this, Hakuoro decides to let all the people back to rebuild the capital. That night, Hakuoro sees Kamyu flying off and follows her to the lake. There, he witnesses her surrounded by and playing with light. He realizes that it’s not something of this world and relates it to her being an Onkamiyamukai Kamunagi (priestess). Suddenly he hears the grass moving beside him and sees an eye-patched man appear. This man introduces himself as Genjimaru and wants Hakuoro to meet with someone. Genjimaru then takes Hakuoro to a mountain path where a short person appears and introduces herself as Kunnekamun’s Amururineuruka Kuuya.

Curses! Here I thought we were rid of that laugh, but nooooo, it has to come back in a dream. And given how Hakuoro likes to dwell on these things, I bet we’ll still hear more of it yet.
The mystery of Kamyu deepens this episode with both the water drinking and the playing with the lights. In both of those scenes, Kamyu acted really different from her normal chipper self, almost like she was in some sort of a trance. I bet her older sister can explain everything, but isn’t telling just yet.
The whole storytime-with-Yuzuha-and-Eruru bit was quite interesting. From Yuzuha, you get the feeling that she feels like she’s going to die at any time now because she wants to become a star and shine on everyone. Eruru was the opposite, acting almost like a mother to Yuzuha, saying basically that she still had a life ahead of her to live. I question if Yuzuha is actually going to die because she doesn’t seem like that important of a character (for now). If she died now, her death wouldn’t have all that much impact except on maybe Oboro. Maybe that will change in the near future as the story develops more.
Genjimaru and Kuuya made appearances only at the end of this episode, unlike what last week’s preview might have led us to believe. I see that Genjimaru has the same type of ear wings as Touka, so that makes him an Evenkuruga. We’ll probably learn more in next week’s episode.

The laugh won’t die!!!

A slow episode, but it’s not without dark forshadowings.
Is Hakuoro really a beast that attracts war?
Is Yuzuka dying?
Is there more than meets the eyes in Kamyu?
and suddenly, here comes another ruler wishing an audience with Hakuoro

And here I thought that this ep. will be introducing Kuuya.. But no, she only appear on the last minute and told us to wait another week..
Considering the speed, I starting to doubt whether it can describe all truth within such limited remaining ep…

And I thought I can see Kuuya some goodies in this ep.
So they do skip Karura’s arc in Na Tunku afterall. ~_~ Can’t blame ‘em though.
Shinova at 3:29 am on July 18th, 2006
Or they’re putting it elsewhere in the series. Who knows.

>>So they do skip Karura’s arc in Na Tunku afterall.
Ep. 18 is said to be titled as “Kaihougun(Liberation Army/Force)”, so I guess that one should be for Na Tunku stuff.

Watch the intro. He and the villain of that arc are in there, so it’s probably a matter of time.

Amururineuruka Kuuya…and I thought Louise Francoise la Bran de la Valiel was a hard name to remember.
ryuusei at 9:46 am on July 18th, 2006
Utawarerumono was hard name to remember the first time around
Tom at 11:47 am on July 18th, 2006
Names like Eruru and Aruru were too easy to remember, and most of the rest sounded like slightly altered Japanese names, take Hakuoro, Karura, Kamyu, Kurou, Touka etc etc….
Donzax3 at 11:50 am on July 18th, 2006

“Seeing how guilty Hakuoro feels, Eruru shows him a patch of growing plants. She explains that she planted the seeds last time they came. By planting seeds, the greenery will return; if you don’t sow any seeds, nothing will grow.”
This thus explains why Hakuoro sechs his whole harem -> to “plant the seeds” and replace the people who died in wars… Bad idea, Eruruu…
